Obituary of Gary Lee Conner

Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gary Lee Conner, 70, of Albright (Valley Point Community), WV, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at his home. The son of the late Charles and Betty Shears Conner, he was born July 22, 1954, in Kingwood, WV. Gary overcame many obstacles in his life. The curves that life threw him brought him much pain, numerous surgeries etc. However, he never gave up. One often wondered how he got around, but everyone knew it was his desire to be with those he loved and be there with them as long as he could. He was a fighter and won every round until he grew tired, and his suffering was finally over. He is now at home with his loved ones and friends and singing and telling everyone about everyone he loved whom he had to leave behind because their work wasn’t finished yet. Gary is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 46 years, Cindy Richards Conner. Gary and Cindy were blessed with two beautiful children: a son, Jeremy Lee Conner, and children, Austin Lee (Sherea) and Victoria Nicole; and a daughter, Destiny Dawn Turner, and her two children, Izabelle Lou and Gabriel William Conner. His family was his greatest joy, and he adored his grandchildren and always looked forward to spending time with them. Also surviving are five brothers and their spouses: Eddie (Sonja), Charles Jr. (JoAnn), Larry (Lucy), Rick (Cheryl) and Mark (Debbie); and four sisters: Wilma DeBerry (Bob), Bonnie Elkins, Susie Eye and Donna Keenan (Mike). He is also survived by four brothers-in-law: Bill Richards (Sue), Bryan (Kathy), Greg (Virginia) and Tim (Bert); and many nieces and nephews whom he loved, and they loved their Uncle Gary. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Bill Eye and Hubert Elkins; a nephew, Brian Elkins; his mother- and father-in-law, Bill and Barbara Richards; and sister- and brother-in-law, Mary and Danny Riggleman. Anyone that knew Gary would tell you that he was the most unselfish person you could meet. He was always there to help in any way he could, regardless of the situation. He loved gardening and was great at it. You knew how much he loved it when you saw the veggies start to grow, and the rows were so perfectly straight. He always shared the bounty of his hard work with everyone to enjoy. He also loved hunting with his family and friends. There were days when he wouldn’t get home until late after dark, not because of the game they got, but because of probably talking about all the ones that got away. Gary treasured his friends and especially his very dear friends, Terry and Fran Brady. Gary and Terry would hunt in the woods, and they would laugh because Fran and Cindy were also hunting, but they would tell you it was for bargains. Gary and Cindy also loved Terry’s late parents, Dick and Dolly Brady, who would always welcome you with open arms. He also loved his dear friends, Jim and Janice Crane, and treasured every moment that they shared with picnics, going out to eat, and having a bite at the local convenience store. Gary loved many, and many loved Gary. The family would also like to thank all the emergency personnel and especially Officer Stockett who responded to the call with sincere kindness to our family. A very special heartfelt thanks goes to his brother-in-law, Tim Richards, and nephew, Danny Hardy, for always being there for Gary and knowing that it was his time to go and work tirelessly to save him. We love you so much! Family and friends may call at the Mt. Moriah Church in Valley Point (Albright) WV, Monday, November 11, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. service with Pastor Sonny McNear officiating. The Carl R.
