Obituary of Barbara June Richards
Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara June (DeVall) Richards,
84, of Albright (Valley Point), WV, passed away at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling, WV, surrounded by her children on Sunday, November 5, 2023.
The daughter of the late Elmer and Bernice Groves DeVall, she was born September 7, 1939, in Albright (Valley Point).
Barbara was the most loving, giving, kindest, compassionate, and caring person, and the list goes on of her many qualities. When she was younger, she loved picking blackberries with her aunts and continued to go berry picking every year until she would sadly say, “they are all gone”. She always made sure that her family felt loved and loved to cook big dinners for all of them. She enjoyed baking (one of the best), canning, playing cards, doing word search books, making quilts, and working on puzzles. Listening to gospel music all day and singing along was especially enjoyed by Barbara. The days when the family would fill the house and sing all day meant so much to her, and she would brag about her handsome husband who also loved to sing. What she mostly looked forward to was spending time with her family.
Barbara is survived by four sons and their spouses: Billy and Sue Richards of Bruceton Mills, WV, Bryan and Kathy Richards of Albright, Tim and Bert Richards of Albright, and Greg and Virginia Richards of Elizabeth, PA; and a daughter and her spouse, Cindy and Gary Conner. Also surviving her are many grandchildren and great-grandchildren: John Bolyard; Jenny and Tim Nicola and sons, Dylan and Blake; Shannah Richards and son, Hayden; Jeremy Conner and son and his wife, Austin and Sherea Conner, and daughter, Victoria Conner; Destiny Turner and daughter, Izabelle Epling; Chris and Beth Ann Riggleman and sons: Chris, Tyler, and Seth; Kimberly and Mike Rudolph and daughter, Katelyn; Jeffrey Richards; Christina Richards; Tiffany and Danny Hardy and son, Fayne; and Amanda Richards and daughter, Athena.
Other survivors include a sister and her husband, Pamela and Richard Sherren, and their son, Nathan, and his wife, and their daughter, Sarah; sister-in-law, Pam Richards, and family; brother-in-law, Frank Richards, and family; brother-in-law and wife, Buck and Janet Richards, and family; brother-in-law and wife, Paul and Loretta Richards, and family; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, William Lloyd Richards, Sr.; her daughter, Marietta June Riggleman; mother- and father-in-law, Russel and Margaret Richards; brothers: Roger, Robert, and Everett; sister, Jacquelene Richards; and brother-in-law, Jack, and grandson, Michael; brother-in-law, Dave, and son, Davey; brother-in-law, Lee Roy, and wife, Candy; sister-in-law, Patty Richards; brother-in-law, Homer Adams; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Adams and daughter, Peggy.
The family wishes to extend a huge thank you to the staff at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home who loved and cared for her. The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and aides on 3 South and anyone else involved with Mom’s care. You treated her like she was one of your family, and we will be forever thankful for your kindness to Mom and to us. May God bless!
