Arvon Glenn Benson,
94, of Cheat Neck, WV, passed away peacefully at home with his son by his side on Saturday, December 31, 2022. The son of the late Gervis and Mable Benson, he was born on September 6, 1928, in Pisgah, WV.
Glenn was a 1945 graduate of Bruceton High School and married his high school sweetheart, the late Joanne Benson, in 1950. He joined the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. For nineteen years, he was employed by the Sanitary Milk Company and then retired from the Consolidated Coal Co. He was a member of the U.M.W.A. Local Union 1588 Blackville #1 mine, the Laborers International Union Local 379, a Life member of the Bruceton High School Alumni Association and the V.F.W. Post 548.
An avid deer, turkey, rabbit, and squirrel hunter, he also loved hunting ginseng and enjoyed watching WVU basketball.
Glenn is survived by his son and wife, James Benson and Janice; four grandchildren: Toby Foster, Jamie Snider (Chad), Andrew Benson, and Makara Hedrick (Jason); and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Blanche Stockett.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Amedisys Hospice, especially Carla Presley, and to his personal caregiver, Elizabeth Darnell, for the great care that she provided.
Family and friends may be received at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, WV, on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., and on Wednesday, January 4 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service with Pastor Tim Wotring officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Bruceton Mills (Pisgah) WV.
