Obituary of Cyrus D. Chidester
Please share a memory of Cyrus to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Cyrus (Cy) D. Chidester,
73, of Hazelton WV, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022, at home surrounded by his family. The son of the late Grace Lewis, he was born January 17, 1949, in Hazelton.
Cy proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded two Purple Hearts for his service. After he was honorably discharged, he became a heavy equipment operator for Marsolino Construction. He was a charter member of the Bruceton Mills VFW Post 2523 which he helped establish in 1971.
Cy had a love for the outdoors, especially deer hunting. When he wasn’t hunting, he could be found watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys. We would always expect a phone call after the game, and usually it was to tell us how horrible the game was. But, he never wavered and was a fan of that team-- win or lose. There will be many memories shared by family and friends of the times spent with Cy, from cookouts to just spending time talking.
Surviving are his five children: Duane Chidester and his wife, Kathy, Brenda Chidester and her husband, John Bryan, Kenneth Chidester and his companion, Nicole Buseman, and Elizabeth Hunter and her husband, Darrin “Dumpy” Hunter, all of Hazelton, and Timothy Livengood and his wife, Rachel, of Yorktown, VA. Also surviving are nine ornery grandchildren: Cody Gibson, Lindsey Ware, Bryanna Chidester, Justin Chidester, Madison Livengood, Maddox Livengood, Jayden “Tater” Livengood, Brooklyn Hunter and Noah Chidester; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred and Paul; and two sisters, Diane and Crystal.
In addition to his mother, Cy was preceded in death by his wife, Patty Chidester, and his brother, Mack Lewis.
Family and friends may call at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, WV, on Monday, August 15, 2022, from 4:00-8:00 PM, and on Tuesday, August 16, from 10:00 until the 11:00 AM funeral service, with Pastor Linda Masters officiating.
