Obituary of Doris A. Groves
Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Doris A. Groves,
92, of Bruceton Mills, WV, peacefully passed to her new home in Heaven on June 9, 2022.
The daughter of the late Ralph and Mary Graham, she was born on April 21, 1930, in Beech Run, WV.
Granny Doris, as lovingly referred to by her family, loved Jesus, and was a member of the Little Sandy Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed embroidering, quilting, and baking her delicious ginger cookies made from her grandma’s recipe. That recipe will continue. She had various jobs through the years but loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Doris was devoted to her children and their spouses: Lois Martin and Gerald of Valley Point, Linda Mayfield and Gary of Cuzzart, and Lyle Groves and Janet of Bruceton Mills; and grandchildren: Ty Martin and wife, Amy, Jeremy Martin and wife, Heather, Chad Martin and wife, Michelle, Mindy Mayfield, Christina Pounds and husband, George, Stephanie Groves and fiancé, Steven Blosser, Steven Groves and wife, Brooke, and Buddy Groves and wife, Tara.
One of her greatest joys in the last several years has been the addition of several great-grandchildren: Zack Martin, Katie Martin and fiancé, Austin Miller, Gage and Ragan Martin, Mason and Brianna Martin, Lainy Pounds, Brody Blosser, Blakelyn, PJ, and Sage Groves, and Walker Groves. She had one great-great-grandson, Nash Miller, which blessed her with five generations.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Gene Groves; son, Larry Groves; granddaughter, Stephanie Groves; two brothers, John and Loye Graham; and sister, Aleda Rush.
Family and friends may call at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, WV, on Sunday, June 12, 2022, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and on Monday, June 13, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service in the funeral home with Pastors Tim Edin and Luke McClean officiating.
Burial will follow at the Sugar Valley Cemetery in Bruceton Mills, WV. A dinner to celebrate her life will follow at Mt Moriah Christian Center in Valley Point, WV.
The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice/Home Health Care for going above and beyond for Doris and her family. Doris was always happy to see her nurse, Robin, Michelle and her bath nurse, Cindy. Also, a big thank you goes to caregivers, Linda Jones and Norma Johnson.
