Sharon Kay Durr,
77, of Bruceton Mills (Brandonville community), WV, passed away Friday, July 17, 2020, at her home.
Sharon was the only daughter of the late Luke Charles and Violet Mary Robinson Root. She was born March 2, 1943 in Parsons, WV, and is a descendant of the first pioneer families of Tucker Co.
She was a 1961 graduate of Parsons High School, a member of the First Methodist Church of Terra Alta, and a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Youghiogheny Glades Chapter, of Oakland, MD. From 1986 until 2004, she resided with her husband and son at Alpine Lake. Sharon enjoyed her family, swimming, reading, gardening, walking on her property in Tucker Co., near Cheat River, going to Blackwater Falls, and her many pets over the years.
She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Michelle and Jeffrey Whitehead, of Keyser, WV; a grandson, Andrew William Edward Whitehead; a brother and his wife, James L. and Agnes Barlow Root; nephews, James L. Root, Jr. and Jarion Lee Root; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James S. Durr, April 14, 2013; beloved son, James S. Durr II; grandparents, Noah and Bedie Nestor Robinson and William and R. Shahan Root; four aunts: Elsie Robinson Felton, Chloe Goff, Hazel Calvert and Grace Robinson; and four uncles: Roy B. Goff, Patrick H. Felton, Charles W. Calvert and Woodward Douglas Robinson.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service with burial on Friday, July 24, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Thomas, WV, with Pastor Patrick Cassidy officiating.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and for your safety, we encourage those attending to wear face masks and practice social distancing.
Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, WV, will be assisting the Durr family with funeral arrangements.
