Charles Ray Moyers,

     87, of Bruceton Mills, WV, died Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at Sundale Nursing Home in Morgantown, WV, where he had been a resident since December 2017.
    The son of the late Charles Chester and Stella Guthrie Moyers, he was born July 28, 1931 on the family farm, in Bruceton Mills, where he farmed most of his life.
     Charles Ray graduated from Bruceton High School in 1950, having received the honor of FFA State Farmer.  He served the United States Department of Agriculture as a dairy herd tester for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association, first in Delaware County, New York fulfilling his commitment to the Selective Service System as a conscientious objector and, later, in Preston County. Charles Ray drove school bus for Preston County Schools for 27 years, from which he retired in 1993.  He established and operated Moyers Bolt Shop which kept him connected with friends and neighbors until his hospitalization in November 2017.
    Charles Ray was a lifelong member of the Shady Grove Church of the Brethren.  He physically helped build the current church, along with members of his family.  He served the church, both at the West Marva district level and in the Sandy Creek congregation. He was active on the Camp Galilee Board of Trustees and served Shady Grove in various capacities.
    He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Diana and Dana Hewitt, of Hampton, TN, and their children: Daniel and Alisa Hewitt, of Radford, VA, and David and Amanda Hewitt and their children: Phoebe and Brooks, of Klamath Falls, OR, and Daryl and Eve Hewitt and their son, Tyler, of Mount Pleasant , SC; and a son, Charles Howard of Bruceton Mills, and his children: C.J. and Amy Moyers of Bruceton Mills and Amy Moyers of Morgantown, and their mother, Winnie Bucklew Moyers; a daughter-in-law and her companion, Judy Moyers and Jim Nedrow, and her son, Treavis Moyers, of Bruceton Mills; a brother-in-law, Urban Long, of Ada, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy N. Shoemaker Moyers, September 25, 2015; son, William Ray Moyers; and his three sisters, Beatrice Baysinger, Alma Long, and Pauline Sines. 
     Family and friends may call at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home in Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, WV, Thursday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and Friday, September 28, 2018, at the Shady Grove Church of the Brethren in Bruceton Mills, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service with Rev. Barry M. Adkins officiating.  Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery.
